Luther Arliss Kirkpatrick, 86, of Lignum, Va, died on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Hughes Home in Fredericksburg, Va. He was born on Aug. 14, 1917, in Rockingham County, Va, and began a career in the sawmill business when he was 17 years of age. He served in the US Army in World War II after which he woned and operated a sawmill in Maryland for 10 years. In 1961 he came to Virginia and was a partner in the K&M Lumber Company in Lignum, Va. When this was sold he shipped the equipment to Africa and built a sawmill in the Ivory Coast for a French company. He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Helan W. Kirkpatrick. Viewing will be held at Laurel Hill Funeral Home in Spotsylvania, Va, on Wed., Jan. 7, 2004, from 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at Laurel Hill Funeral Home on Thur., Jan. 8, at 11 am.
