Malvin Claudean West, 71, of Unionville, Virginia passed away at Mary Washington Hospital on Friday, Nov. 28, 2014. He was born on July 5, 1943, to William and Cleoda (Sanders) West in Commerce, Missouri. At the age of 10, the West family moved to Decatur Illinois, where he graduated from MacArthur High School in 1963; and married Lorretta Loraine Jones on January 30, 1965.

Malvin worked for Mueller Company as a laborer, and later as foreman supervisor. Promoted to sales representative, he moved his family to Annapolis, Maryland in 1977. In 1982, they moved to Northern Virginia. Malvin developed his own business, West Supply Company from 1985 to 1994 distributing water pipelines and supplies to various municipalities along the Eastern Seaboard. In 1995 he established Mal-Lo Enterprises, as an independent sales broker representing Vestal Manufacturing.

On April 02, 1989 Malvin was baptized into Christ at the East Capitol Street Church of Christ in Washington, DC where he served as a trustee and a deacon. In 2007 he placed his membership with the Church of Christ in Northern Virginia where he served as a trustee until his passing.

Survivors include; his wife of almost 50 years, Lorretta; 2 sons; Mark Alan West of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Jabulani Issa West of Manassas, Virginia; 2 daughters; Kimberly Lynnette Stanley (Jonathan) of Sterling, Virginia, and Stephanie Lorraine Ashford (Trone) of Unionville, Virginia; 3 grandchildren; Trone Jr. Ashford, Tyrone Ashford, and Jamila West; 2 brothers; John O. West of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Karlton West of Decatur, Illinois; 4 sisters; Dorothy M. Pullen of Lansing Michgan, Marion M. Lourant of Richmond, California, Vivian L. West and Ethel I. West, both of Las Vegas, Nevada.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Malvin was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers; William D. West, Robert H. West, Isaiah O. Saleem, Jethro West, and Clarence E. West; and 1 sister; Daisy West.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014 from 6 pm to 8pm at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, with funeral services on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 11:00 a.m. at the Spotsylvania Church of Christ, with Minister Gary Smith officiating.
