Marie C. Rigor-Fernandes, 63, of Spotsylvania, went to her Heavenly rewards on Friday, August 21, 2015 with her loved ones by her side.
Marie was born in Manila, PH on May 19, 1952 to Saturnino P. and Nena (Coronado) Rigor. After graduating from high school, she joined the US Army as a member of the last Women's Army Corp (WAC) class in Alabama, serving for over 22 years, working in the Special Security Office in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, West Point Military Academy and on the Committee for the Women's War Memorial, before retiring in April 1997.
During her military career Marie served in the following military units: HQS, Sixth US Army, PSF,CA, HHD, 28th Trans. BN, Mannheim , GE, HQS, 4th Inf. Div, Fort Carson. CO, USAITAC, WNY, Wash DC. , US Combat Support Team One, FROKA, Korea, SSO DA Staff, The Pentagon, US Army Element, Office of SECDEF, The Pentagon, HQS, First US Army, Fort Meade, MD, United States Military Academy, West Point NY. In 1983, Marie received her B.A. Degree in Psychology, from the University of Colorado.
After retiring from the Army Marie went to work for the Federal Government in Security and Counterintelligence. Her offices include the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, US Attorneys Office Eastern District of Va., Deputy Director of Special Security, Senior Intelligence Officer Gitmo.
They are members St. Mary Catholic Church, Fredericksburg.
Survivors include, her husband, Peter; daughter Tabatha "Tabby" Huls; 2 step-daughters; Cristina and Michelle Fernandes; brother, Jose Rigor; 5 sisters; Dr. Lydia (Lewin) Barringer, Susan Willett, Dr. Rita Matory, Doris (Tim) Williams, Elena (Keith) Hubbard; 7 grandchildren; Nathan Humphreys, Israel, Lily, Estella, Lorenzo, and Jazmin.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, from 6 pm to 9 pm, with Rosary said at 8:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fredericksburg on Wednesday August 26, 2015 at 11 am. Interment in Arlington National Cemetery with full Honors will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Shriner's Hospitals for Children on behalf of Marie C Rigor-Fernandes.
