Obituary

Mary Lou Main left this earth to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, June 12, 2015 at her home in Locust Grove, Virginia.

"Lou" was born on August 12, 1927 to William and Lessie (McCarey) Spencer in Dillard, Oklahoma. After the dust bowl era, the family moved to Southern California in 1940. She graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk & attended Long Beach City College. After college, Lou worked as a secretary at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach.

She married Malcolm David Gregory on June 27, 1947. The two settled in Bellflower, where they raised a daughter, Terese, & a son, Russell, before relocating to Orange County in 1960.

Always the elegant beauty, Lou worked as a free-lance model for various designers, stores, and events. She served as a visual poise consultant and make-up artist for beauty pageants such as Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss World Teen, and Miss Long Beach. She was also a judge for Miss Teenage California and taught charm and make-up classes for public schools, modeling agencies, and other organizations.

Lou was a sales representative for the Prince Matchabelli perfume line until 1968, when she married Harry Emil Baumann & gained a son, Bill. She and Harry dedicated themselves to serving the Lord who radically changed the focus of their lives. They were great partners in ministry and were welcomed in homes and hospital rooms by all who needed encouragement. They especially loved to tell about Jesus' offer of eternal life and helped many on their spiritual journeys. Lou mentored women and even wrote her own manual on how to help women grow in their faith.

After Harry passed away, Lou married William Benton Harris and they were very active in their church while living on an avocado ranch in Fallbrook California. A few years later they exchanged avocado trees for a pine forest in Piney Flats, Tennessee where her husband, Bill, also passed away.

In recent years, Lou moved to Fredericksburg area where she met Floyd George Main. They were married in 2011, and settled in her Locust Grove home where Floyd was a caring companion to her.

Lou was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Floyd, daughter Terese Guiterrez; 8 grandchildren, (Christa, Nathan, Carl, Cheryl, Katie, Kristel, Carrie, and Daniel); and 4 great-grandchildren, (Jake, Sadie, Max, and Russell). She was preceded in death by her sons; Russell Gregory & Bill Baumann, & her sisters: Etta Mae, & Oneita Elizabeth .

She asked simply to be remembered as someone who loved her Lord, her family, & her friends.

A memorial service will be held (on a date to be announced) at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Lignum VA; and, later, a Celebration of Life will be held in Southern California with family & friends..

Throughout her life, Lou supported a variety of mission ministries - both financially and prayerfully - so in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Samaritans' Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org
