Mattie Ellen Wood Doney, age 58 of Lake of the Woods, Locust Grove, died Friday, March 6, 2009 at her residence.
Born in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Robert Millard and Katherine Elizabeth Hummer Wood.
Mattie graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, where she met her future husband, Robert. She was a former resident of the city of Fairfax, worked as an Assistant Bank Manager, and was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church. Mattie devoted her time to her family, as well as her hobbies, which included genealogy, gardening, and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed collecting antiques and cat figurines.
Mattie is survived by her husband of 39 years, Robert Doney, Jr; son, Robert Doney, III, and his wife Stacy of Elkton, MD; daughter, Dawn Doney Young and her husband Brian of Stafford; grandchildren, Katherine Young, Sarah Doney, Christopher Young, and Cora Doney; sisters, Hannah Menay and Roberta Walker, both of Caroline County; sisters in law, Rita Bettis of Lawrenceville, GA, Ronda Doney of Springfield, Ruane Langton and her husband John of Traceys Landing, MD, and Lisa Doney of Dallas, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in the chapel of Laurel Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Craddock officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7:00 - 9:00pm, and on Wednesday from 11:00am - 1:00pm, prior to the service.
