Melvin Edwin Berkman, 60, of Spotsylvania, passed away at his home on Sunday, Mar. 23, 2014, surrounded by his family
Melvin was born on July 17, 1953 in Watertown, NY. He joined the US Marine Corp in January 1973. Melvin moved with his family to Spotsylvania over 30 years ago. He married Claudia E. Lauff on April 17, 1995 in Fredericksburg, and she survives. Melvin worked as a self employed handyman. He won beard contests in Berkley Springs, WV for 16 years in a row.
Survivors include 1 son: Joshua Lauff; 2 daughters; Anji Lauff and Lisa McGurk; 1 brother Robert Berkman; 3 sisters: Barbara Smith (Jay), Peggy VanEpps (Randy), Bernitta "Bea" Phelps (Alan); 6 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Harold Berkman, Mother and Step-father; Shirley A. and Ward VanEpps, Jr.
A Memorial service will be held at the VanEpps home. Please Call family for details.
