Nila Marie Riffe Meadows, 76, passed away at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA on Nov. 6, 2010. She was born in Crab Orchard, WV on February 28, 1934. Her parents, Herbert and Corda Riffe predeceased her. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV and of Marshall University in 1957 with a degree in elementary education. Nila is survived by her husband M. Gilven (Gil) Meadows, a childhood sweetheart; two sons Merlin Wayne Meadows and Stan Lee Meadows, both from the northern Virginia area; and two grandchildren, Amanda Lee and Bradley M. Meadows. At the time of her death she was residing in Stafford County. Other surviving family members include a brother, Mark Riffe and his wife Carolyn, and a sister, Elsie Pruett and her husband "coach" Bob Pruett. Additionally, her devoted and bereaved in-laws include Nola Meadows Turner, Berman & Tootsie Meadows, Bill (Farmer) & Betty Meadows, Fred & Nancy Meadows, David & Janice Meadows, and Vic & Sara Meadows. She is also survived by scores of nieces and nephews. Nephews serving as pall bearers include Tim Francis, Jay Meadows, Rocky Meadows, Jim Meadows, Ron Meadows, Lewis Turner, Alan Meadows, Mark Meadows and J.T. Meadows. Nila, a retired Fairfax County elementary school teacher, was active in community activities including various church positions. She was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church and the United Baptist Church in Annandale, VA. Perhaps her greatest satisfaction came from being a mother, grandmother and "favorite aunt". Her family and many friends will greatly miss her. Friends may call at the Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Road (Rt. 3), Spotsylvania, VA 22553, where her family will receive visitors on Tues., Nov. 9, from 6 - 8 pm. A celebration of life will be held at Chancellor Baptist Church on Wed. Nov. 10, at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the church beginning one hour before the service. Interment will follow immediately at Laurel Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Chancellor Baptist Church music ministry
