Richard "Rick" Peter Kekic went to be with the Lord peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family in Dumfries, Virginia on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the age of 72. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ann Marie (Fauber) Kekic. They were married on April 24, 1971 in Bethesda, Maryland.
He is lovingly and happily remembered by daughter, Ericka DeMarco (David) of Woodbridge, Virginia; son, Derrick Kekic (Rebecca) and their children Keirsten, Turner, Grayson, and Page of Strasburg, Virginia; and son Patrick Kekic (René) and their children, Carter, Caroline, and Braxton of Crawford, Texas. Rick is also survived by his sister, Kathy Kekic Hoyng (George) and nephew, Elliott Hoyng of Springboro, OH and brother-in-law, Ken Kish of Mentor, OH. Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Betty Kekic and sister Lynn Kekic Kish, all of Ohio.
He was born on December 19, 1946 in Painesville, OH. He graduated from Harvey High School in 1964 and Mount Union College in 1968. While at Mount Union, Rick was a standout lineman for the Purple Raider football team and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. After more than 33 years of work, he retired from the Department of Defense. In his retirement, he loved spending time with family and taking trips both near and far. When not traveling he enjoyed Duplicate Bridge and fantasy football. One of his proudest achievements was becoming a Life Master at the Bridge Table.
In 1972, Rick made the best decision of his life, accepting Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. Rick was an active member of Woodbridge Bible Church for over 20 years, then moved his membership to First Baptist Church of Woodbridge where he faithfully served since 2014. He especially loved Bible Study with his home group and Seekers Sunday School class.
A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Woodbridge, 13600 Minnieville Rd, Woodbridge, VA., 22193, on Monday, November 25th at 10:00 am. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, November 26th at 10:30 am at Laurel Hill Memorial Park, 10127 Plank Rd., Spotsylvania, VA. Please meet graveside by 10:25 AM
