Rita Jean Langhorne, 76, of Unionville, Virginia, passed away on May 14, 2025.
She was born in Washington, DC, on May 17, 1948. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Frances Langhorne; her brother, Gary Langhorne; her former husbands, Larry Loy and Richard Dost; sister-in-law, Mary L Langhorne; and brother-in-law, Wilbert Dunn. She is survived by daughter, Heather Loy Moroch; son, Wallace Dost (Carrie); granddaughters, Lindsey Moroch, Ashleigh Davis, Alayna Dost, Brianna Dost; grandsons, Christopher Dost, Hunter Dost, and Ryder Dost; and four great grandchildren. Rita is also survived by her brothers, Bernie Langhorne (Mary Carolyn) and Doug Langhorne (Paula); and her sisters, Nancy Dunn, and Teresa Bacon, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Life Story
Rita grew up in Dunn Loring, Virginia, where she enjoyed riding horses and performing in horse shows. She attended Dunn Loring Elementary School, and at the age of twelve, moved with her family to Fairfax, Virginia. Rita attended Sidney Lanier Intermediate School and Fairfax High School. She loved all animals and eventually settled in to raising cattle in Aldie, Virginia.
In recent years, Rita enjoyed a quiet life with her companion, Dallas Bigelow, at her home in Unionville. She loved shopping, playing Scrabble, puzzles, cows, and coffee. She donated to many charities, including St Jude and ASPCA. Rita looked forward to takings trips with Heather to Myrtle Beach to visit her granddaughter, Lindsey and her sister, Nancy. In recent months, she was able to enjoy shopping with her girls and her niece, Sarah Jane, visits with family, and an occasional trip to McDonalds for a strawberry milkshake. Rita will be remembered by her family and friends as a generous and compassionate person who loved her family, her farm, and her animals, with all of her heart.
A funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Rd, Spotsylvania, Virginia.
