Obituary

Robert Anthony Meskunas passed away peacefully in his home on Friday October 16th 2015 in Fredericksburg, Virginia at the age of 79.

Robert was born on December 10th, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA to Anthony and Violet Meskunas. He obtained degrees from Tulane University and Catholic University. After traveling extensively throughout Europe, he met his beautiful wife Margaret while teaching at Tulane. The family lived in Washington D.C.; Kobe, Japan; Bethlehem, PA; Alexandria, VA; and most recently Fredericksburg, VA. Robert's career included working for the Office of Naval Intelligence and the Office of Economic Opportunity; as a community action activist and technology project manager; and in various roles in sales and marketing.

Robert was an avid reader and loved music, sports, playing bridge and doing crosswords. He was a life-long fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. However, his biggest passion was his family. He fostered in them a love of camping, fishing, learning, literature, music and travel. Whether playing board games or the accordion, or swinging his wife around the house for a polka, he injected fun into every day. In retirement, Robert enjoyed spending time at the family vacation property at Wilderness Resort and playing cards with fellow campers and area residents.

Robert is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Anne Meskunas; his son Robert A. Meskunas Jr., wife Brenda and their children Zachary, Kylie, Ryan, and Alexis; his daughter Marissa Elk, husband Barry and their children, Eli, Evan and Eliza; and his daughter Tamara Anderson, her husband David and their children Ella, Cora, and Ethan. Robert was preceded in death by his sons, Mark and Stefan.

A memorial mass is scheduled for 10:30am on Thursday October 22, 2015 at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Fredericksburg, Virginia with a reception to follow. Fr. Don Rooney will be the celebrant. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Robert's life.
