Robert Louis DeVaughn Sr., age 72 of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away March 8, 2023. Robert was born February 2, 1951 to Evans and Josephine (Williams) DeVaughn. He graduated from Cardoza High School, in Washington, and in 1973 was united in marriage to his lovely wife Althea.

Although Robert previously battled with several medical issues, he stayed strong until the end. The physical and emotional support from family and friends always comforted him. His courage reminds us all that "It is not the strength of the body that counts, but the strength of the spirit." ( J . R. R. Tolkien)

Robert was the jack-of- all- trades when it came to home projects, but repairing vehicles was his strong point. He loved going to car shows and watching television programs about car restoration. He also liked cooking and preparing his favorite ox-tails and sea food salad dishes for his family and friends.

He retired from Fort Myers Construction Company in Washington, D.C., as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Robert was dedicated, hard-working, and a fast learner when it came to operating and maintaining his equipment.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Althea, son; Marcus, grandchildren; Quano n, Alexander and Tamia sisters; Maggie, Annie Louis , and Chri stine , sister-in-law; Brenda, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his son Robert J r., sister Geneva, and b r other Amanious, and other relatives and friends.

Family will be receiving friends at A.L. Bennett & Son Funeral Home on Friday, March 17th from 11AM to noon, followed by a service at noon. The internment will occur immediately thereafter at Laurel Hill Memorial Park in Spotsylvania.
