Roger Williams lost his battle with cancer on Monday, August 17th.  He went peacefully in his sleep, hand held by his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy.

Roger served in the US Army briefly and learned many of the skills that he would take with him throughout his life.  He worked with his hands -- carpentry, cars and HVAC systems -- he was a man of few words, but those words mattered.  His family was important and you would often find him lending a hand to friends who needed it.  Roger was an outdoorsman - you would regularly find him hunting or fishing in his beloved Bath County.  He was a dedicated fan of his Washington Redskins and NASCAR.  It was never a surprise to hear him singing along with his favorite country or bluegrass songs - that singing made him a big hit during family road trips as he sang requests from his daughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert & Mollie Williams, and his daughter, Sandi.  He will be mourned by his devoted wife, Nancy, and their daughter and son-in-love, Ida & Robert Hardwicke.  Roger & Nancy were blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  A part of him will live on as long as they do.  They are:  Charlene & Curtis Nicholas and their beautiful daughters, Aubrey, Morgan and Julianna, Rachel & Shane Wiseman, their handsome sons, Gabriel and Cole, and their precious daughter, Kate Marie, Samantha & Charlie Bennett, Valerie Randall, Derek Hardwicke, Miranda Hardwicke, Natalie Hardwicke, John Williams and Emily Hardwicke.

Family and friends are invited to the celebration of his life on Friday, August 21 at the Laurel Hill Funeral Home (10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania VA).  Visitation will begin at noon followed by a chapel service at 1pm.  Graveside service will begin at 2pm and there will be a small reception in the catering hall immediately following.
