Ruth V. (Kirtley) Long, 84, of Fredericksburg, passed away at her home with her family at her side, on Monday July 25, 2016. Ruth was born on January 31, 1932 to Aubrey Gordon and Ethel Belle (Marshall) Kirtley in Virginia. She worked as a lab technician in plastic manufacturing until retiring. Ruth married William E. Long on May 29, 1967 in La Plata, MD. She was life long Virginia Resident. Survivors include: her husband, William; step-daughter, Teresa "Terry" Cook (Mike), two brothers; Marshall Kirtley (Shirley), James "Tommy" Kirtley (Elizabeth); and three grandchildren; Brian Lee Stone, Jonathan William Cook and Emmaleigh Christin Cook. Ruth had many nieces and nephews who were very special to her. There were 2 nephews and one niece who were very close to Ruth and their children were like grandchildren to her. Jim Kirtley (son Jake), Troy Kirtley (wife Chris and children Justin Mosher, Ryan and Kiersten Kirtley) and Crystal Loving (husband Ray, children Brittany, Hannah and Lennie). Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers; Cecil and Earl and three sisters; Florence Jefferson, Dorothy Clements and Pauline Curtis. Visitation will be held on Friday July 29, 2016 from 10 am to 11 am, and graveside service will follow at 11 am in Laurel Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church to their building fund.
