Sandra Kay Hackney, 70, of Fredericksburg, VA, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on August 10, 2024, at 3:16 pm. She was born in Anawalt, WV, to Vernon and Eva Sexton. Kay is survived by her loving husband, Larry Sr., of 50 beautiful years, and three sons, Larry Thomas Hackney Jr. (Leigh), David Edward Randolph Hackney (Shannon), and Christopher Michael Hackney (Tanya); and 9 cherished grandchildren, Trey Hackney, Trey Martin, Skyler Stewart, Micah Hackney, Mackenzie Martin, Kayla Hackney, Aly Hackney, Summer Hackney, and Addyson Hackney. She is also survived by a sister Kathy Fowler of Green Valley, WV, sister Janet Wooldridge (Richard) of Bluefield, WV, brother Randy Sexton (Lisa)of Princeton, WV, and brother David Sexton (Lisa)of Princeton , WV, as well as many nephews and nieces that she loved dearly.
Kay's life was a testament to her love for Jesus and her unwavering faith in Him. She was a dedicated member of the Bluefield Church of God and a charter member of Spotsylvania Church of God (Encounter). During this time she also attended Grace Chapel located in Stafford, Virginia. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her role as a youth pastor in several churches, where she shared her love for Jesus and wisdom with the younger generation.
Kay retired from the Spotsylvania County School System after many years as a cafeteria manager at Livingston Elementary. During this time, she took pride in preparing meals for many students.
Kay was the most proud of her grandchildren. She loved being "Mammie" and quickly became Mammie to many of her grandchildren's friends, church kids, and even adults. She loved getting her nails done and getting Starbucks afterward with her granddaughters and daughters. She enjoyed baking with her grandchildren. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, so much so that her Christmas tree stays up year-round. Kay spent a lot of time in her pool everyday cleaning. She called this time her "time with Jesus" and her time in prayer. She also loved her sweet little Shih-Tzu, "Angel Grace"
Kay was a beautiful woman of God and served Him her whole life. She was loved by everyone she met, and when meeting new people, she would say, "Hi, I'm Kay. What church do you go to? Do you know Jesus?"
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Eva Sexton, and a grandson, Jayden Alexander Hackney.
Kay's family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania, VA 22553. Kay's Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 12:00 noon at Laurel Hill Funeral Home as well.
