Sandra Lee "Sandy" (Perts) Nelson, 70, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at UVA, Charlottesville. Sandra was born on January 27, 1945 in Washington, PA. She graduated Washington High School, married Arnold R. Nelson in 1964, moving to Washington, D.C. and later to Fredericksburg, Va. Sandra began working for the Smithsonian Institution and later became a successful tax preparer. While she loves her friends and clients, her true passion was being a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and tracked her grandchildren's sporting accomplishments, always encouraging them to pursue their goals.
Sandra is survived by her loving husband, Arnold R. Nelson; daughter; Kelly Lynn Leach (Andrew Duke), brother: Albert Perts (Eileen); grandchildren, Evan and Emma Leach, Courtney and Christopher Duke; cousins; Holly Campbell and Susan Bush; niece and nephew: Tracy & John . She will also be missed by Ann Reichert, who was very much like a sister. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Naomi Keirs.
Visitation will be held on Monday November 9, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm, at Laurel Fill Funeral Home, with funeral services being held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday November 10, 2015. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Fredericksburg Food Bank at fredfood.org.
