Stuart Irving Shotwell's Obituary
Stuart I. Shotwell, 84, of Spotsylvania, VA went to glory on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Mary Washington Hospital. He was the son of the late James P. and Cora Esther Alexander Shotwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Sherwood J. Shotwell.
Stu graduated from Northport H. S. in 1943 and served in the Marine Corps during WW II in the Pacific and was part of the occupation forces in Japan. He was a graduate of Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY in 1950 and was employed by International Harvester Co., Farm Equipment Division, for over 31 years. He continued as a salesman for McMichaels I. H. in Nokesville, VA for 10 years.
Stu was a member of Goshen Baptist Church, American Legion Post 0320, NRA, Izaak Walton League, former Chief Elections officer, member and treasurer of the Spotsylvania County Republican Committee, an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed trout fishing, grouse, goose and deer hunting.
Stu is survived by his wife, Jean of more than 56 years, his daughters Sue-Anne and husband, Jerry Fouse, Linda S. and husband Craig Curtis, Donna S. and the late Paul Carnes, Sandra and husband Carroll Wontrop and son James Stuart and wife Nanette Shotwell along with seventeen grandchildren. His nephews Rory James Shotwell and wife Joyce of Bridgewater, NJ; Glen Stuart and wife Donnie of Centerport, NY and one step-brother Lawrence V. Hammel and wife Maryanne of Sterling, VA.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am Wednesday, February 18 in the chapel of Laurel Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Will Dodson, Pastor of Goshen Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:30 - 11:00am, prior to the service.
For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, or to Goshen Baptist Church.
Mr. Shotwell and his family are in the care of Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania.
