IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Talmadge Leon
"Jerry" Kitchens, Jr.
January 9, 1951 – March 5, 2021
On Friday, March 5, 2021, Talmadge Leon Kitchens, Jr., better known to most as Jerry, passed away suddenly at the age of 70.
Jerry, born in Chattanooga, TN in 1951 to the late Talmadge Kitchens, Sr. and Mary Caroline Kitchens, spent the first few years of his life growing up in GA. The family eventually migrated to the Northern Virginia area, where Jerry grew up as the oldest of 8 children. In his teenage years, his family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and at the age of 18, Jerry went on a mission to the Philippines. There, he met Teresita, who became the love of his life. After returning home to Virginia, Jerry was drafted into the army for several years, and while serving his country, he worked tirelessly to bring Teresita to the United States. Jerry and Teresita married in 1973, had their first child, Spencer, in 1974, were sealed as a family for eternity in the Washington, D.C. Temple, and had their second child, Brittany, in 1985. He went to work for Prince William County in 1973 as an Engineer III, and after 32 years, he retired and joined the Engineers & Surveyors Institute in 2006 as a Senior Staff Engineer.
Jerry was a kind soul, always quick to befriend anyone he met and help people in need. He devoted his life to his family, and especially took great joy in caring for his wife. He was the type of man that was easy to strike up a conversation with, always had a great story to tell, and always did his best to make everyone happy. Jerry was a man of integrity, unafraid of standing up for his beliefs, but also a man of compassion and empathy, always seeking to understand and connect with others. He had a great love for planes, cars, military history and tropical locales. He is survived by his wife, Teresita, his son and daughter, Spencer and Brittany, and his 7 siblings and their families.
Viewing will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1710 Bragg Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407 from 11:00am-1:00pm, followed by the funeral service from 1:00-2:00pm. Due to COVID precautions, we ask that you please contact Brittany Kitchens at bkitchens21@outlook.com if you wish to attend the live service. Masks are required while inside the church.
