Terry L. Murdock, 76, of Locust Grove, VA, died Sunday, June 13 , 2021, of cancer a t his home in Lake of the Woods. He was born in Allegheny County, PA, on September 23, 1944, to George A. and Rita G. Murdock. The family moved to Marlboro Township , NJ, while Terry was still young.

Terry graduated from Freehold Regional High School in 1964. His high school friends will probably remember him best for his gymnastics accomplishments. He was named New Jersey State All Around Gymnastics Champion his junior year. He then attended Western Illinois University, but was drafted into the Army during a break his second year. He served in Vietnam in 1966- 1967 attaining the rank of Sergeant E - 5.

In June 1969, he married Cynthia Reynolds. They had started dating when they were seniors at FRHS. Terry and Cyndie immediately moved to Florida where Terry graduated from National Aviation Academy and then began his career as a commercial pilot.

In 1977, t he couple moved to Herndon, VA, close to Dulles Airport where Terry flew a Cessna Citation for IBM Federal Systems Division . After 30 years in Herndon, they moved two hours south to retire in the Lake of the Woods community.

In addition to flying and lending a helping hand to neighbors, Terry loved to work in his wood shop, building almost anything his wife asked him to. His son Todd (Manassas, VA) followed in his footsteps , competing in gymnastics, flying corporate jets, and creating masterpieces in his own wood shop. His daughter Alicia Shifflett , an RN at University of Virginia Hospital , came to care for her father the last month of his life. H is younger son Darren is an auto electrician in Virginia Beach and rode up when he could to help .

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, his three children, 6 six grandchildren, Jade E. Shelton, Caroline and Collin Murdock, Blake, Tucker and Cooper Shifflett, and a sister, Connie O'Hara of Whiting, NJ. He was predeceased by his parents and his two brothers, Robert and George.

Relatives and friends are invited to Terry's visitation at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Rd., Spotsylvania, VA on Friday, June 18, from 9 AM until time of Graveside Service in the park at 10 AM.
