Obituary

Virginia C. Bayer, 87, of Locust Grove passed away peacefully at her home early Sunday morning, Oct. 9, 2011.
Mrs. Bayer was born in Akron, Ohio, on April 19, 1923, and married Max E. Bayer on Nov. 28, 1942. She was an assistant commercial manager for Ohio Bell Telephone Co. until her retirement in 1978.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Yusef Cauldron (past M.C.O.), the Telephone Pioneers (past president), the East Lake Women's Club and the Lake of the Woods Lioness Club. She was a member of Lake of the Woods Church.
Her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Carol and Raymond Greeney of Locust Grove; her two grandsons, Christopher Greeney and his wife, Michelle, of Burke and Timothy Greeney and his wife, Judi, of Falls Church; and her three great-grandchildren, Max, Ava and Cameron.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania County. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Lake of the Woods Church. The Rev. Tom Schafer will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Curlew Hills Cemetery, Palm Harbor, Fla.
The family asks that donations be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, or to the Lake of the Woods Lioness Club in memory of Virginia.
