William "Bill" Fleet Cox III, 66, of Lake Wilderness area, Spotsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, in San Diego, CA. He was born on October 4, 1949, to William Fleet, Jr., and Virginia Bell (Neisler) Cox in Washington, D.C. Bill graduated from Francis C. Hammond HS in Alexandria. He was a semi-pro baseball player and also enjoyed playing softball. He became an industrial electrician and worked for Fairfax County for over 23 years, retiring in July 2007.
Bill married Barbara Ann Reed on April 30, 1983, in Alexandria. They moved to the Spotsylvania, VA, area in 1988. Bill liked fishing, woodworking, painting, all kinds of puzzles and was an avid Yankee fan with Mickey Mantle as his favorite player.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara; son, Anthony Fernandez; daughter, Pamela Cox; his father, William F. Cox, Jr.; 1 brother, Roger Cox (Jimmie); and three grandchildren,
Kyle, Mikayla and Dylan Fernandez. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, and sister, Barbara Brace.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Laurel Hill Funeral Home from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services held at the funeral home on Friday, October 23, 2015, at 11 am with Pastor Tom Carnahan officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill's name to St. Jude Hospital at stjude.org.
