William “Bill” Roderick Hill Sr., 83, of Partlow, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2026, following a short illness. Born on October 28, 1942, in Mechanicsville, Maryland, Bill was the son of the late Nicholas Hill and Flora Elizabeth Lyon Hill.
Bill was married to his beloved wife, Mary Catherine Hickerson Hill, for 62 years before her passing on January 15, 2025. He was also preceded in death by his son, Daniel Joseph Hill, and his grandson, William “Billy” Kenneth Campbell.
He is survived by his children, William “Rob” R. Hill Jr. (Debbra) and Jeanne Marie (Hill) Campbell; his grandchildren, Allison Noel Campbell (Travis), Kayleigh Noel Swinehart (William), William “Robbie” R. Hill III, Kenny Campbell (Mary), and Jonathan Campbell (Eva); and his great-grandchildren, Kevin, Ripleigh, and Raegan Swinehart.
Bill worked as a plumber for many years and took pride in being able to fix just about anything. In retirement, he enjoyed watching old westerns and comedy shows, tending to his property, and spending time with family and friends.
For more than 40 years, Bill especially loved camping and attending bluegrass festivals with friends and family, where he enjoyed the music, camaraderie, and countless memories made along the way.
Those who knew Bill will remember his humor, his willingness to help others, and most of all, the love he shared with Mary throughout their many years together. His legacy lives on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Laurel Hill Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon. A private interment will be held later, and family and friends are invited to gather for a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
