Obituary

William Thomas Moore, Jr., 91 of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 1, 2019.

William is survived by his son, Stephen Thomas Moore, Sr. (Anne Marie) of Murrell's Inlet, SC, daughter Robin Hall-Carr (Kevin) of Rhoadesville; two brothers, Randy (Lynn), Doug (Joann); two sisters, Sandra Creed (Bill), Linda Hatton (Butch).

He is also survived by four grandchildren, Julie Moore Barden, Stephen Thomas Moore, Jr. (Kerry), Ashley Hall (DaLano), Lisa Hall (Jay); seven great grandchildren, Hannah Hall, Caroline Barden, Amelia Moore, Thomas Moore, Joshua Phillis, Saniyah McCall, and Dominic McCall.

William was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary; grandson, Sean Hall; great grandson, Jacob Hall; son-in-law, Alan Hall; and a brother, Frank Moore.

William was born in Alexandria, Va. on December 1, 1927 to William T. and Lena Estelle (Roland) Moore.

After attending George Washington High School in Alexandria, he joined the United States Navy serving aboard the minelayer, USS Ogalala during World War II.

He married Mary Jane Starkey on July 29, 1950 in Alexandria and settled into quiet suburban life, raising their children.

"Bobby", as he was affectionately called, worked as the general manager for Hardy Richardson garage on Wilkes Street in Alexandria for more than 40 years. He then went on to retire from the Richmond, Fredericksburg, & Potomac (RF&P) railroad and Amtrak.

He was also a volunteer fireman for the Alexandria Fire Department, Station 4 on St. Asaph Street.

As lifelong Alexandrians, Bob and Mary eventually moved to Rhoadesville in 1996. William moved to Fredericksburg in 2016.

Bobby loved his family, his Norwich terrier Cricket", golf, friends of Summer Lake, the Washington Nationals and the Washington Redskins.

Interment services will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 12 noon, with honors by the US Navy.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to Mary Washington Hospice at hospice giving.mwhc.com  The family will receive friends for a time of remembering on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 12 pm to 5 pm at the Summer Lake Clubhouse, 11190 Savannah Drive Fredericksburg 22407.
